The Beginning: A Problem We All Know Too Well

Ever felt like your salary just… disappears?
I did too. Every month I’d promise myself to track expenses—but a few days later, I’d forget or get too lazy. Turns out, I wasn’t alone. Many people struggle to manage money consistently because tracking feels boring or complicated.

That’s how Montrack was born — a mobile app designed to help people track, plan, and achieve their financial goals in a simple and fun way.

Research: Making Sure the Problem Is Real

Before jumping into design, I wanted to make sure this wasn’t just my personal issue.

So I ran a user survey, and here’s what I found:

They haven't found an effective and efficient way to do it.

It's challenging to control themselves from buying unnecessary items.

They often forget to record their finances.

They are reluctant to record their finances, leading to sudden increased expenses.

Lack of accuracy in their planned estimates.

The insight was clear — people need a finance app that’s not just functional, but also pleasant and easy to use.

🔍 Survey Question

What do you usually do to manage your finances?

What are the challenges you face when managing your finances?

What do you typically do to overcome these challenges?

Have you ever tried using a financial management app? If yes, what is the name of the app?

What do you like about the app? For example, its user interface, ease of use, goal-setting features, budgeting, etc.

What do you feel is lacking in the app? For example, the absence of goal-setting or budgeting features, etc.

What features do you think are essential for a financial management app?

Define & Ideate: Finding the Right Direction

After understanding the pain points, I narrowed down what users truly need:

A quick and effortless way to record transactions

The ability to set clear financial goals

Insightful summaries to track progress

I created a user persona named Aditya Natanael, a graphic designer who wants to save money. Aditya became my design compass — helping me keep the experience relatable and human.

Design Process: From Sketch to Interface

I started with a moodboard — soft colors, rounded icons, and friendly typography to make finance feel approachable.

Then I sketched ideas, built wireframes, and moved to high-fidelity mockups in Figma.

Key features I designed:

Dashboard with income and expense summary

Transaction tracking by category

Financial goals section for saving targets

Daily motivational quotes 💸

The goal was simple: make managing money feel like playing a game, not doing homework.

Making a dots from shape

Creating Mockups

The Result: Meet Montrack

Once the prototype was ready, I ran usability tests to see if users could explore the app naturally.

Here’s what I learned:

Some users got confused between “Budget” and “Goal” sections

They loved the clean interface, but wanted more reminders and guidance

I refined the navigation flow and added subtle micro-interactions to make the experience smoother and more enjoyable.

Reflection & Key Takeaways

From this project, I learned that:

Good design turns difficult habits into easy, enjoyable experiences.

Montrack reminded me that UX design isn’t only about visuals — it’s about creating tools that shape positive behavior through meaningful experiences.
